Antarctica Cruise Misconceptions
One of the most remote places in the world to visit is Antarctica. While this may be a dream location for some travelers, others would never think of going to Antarctica. A lot of travelers miss out on an Antarctica cruise because they have some misconceptions about it. These are some of the common things that travelers who are going on a cruise to Antarctica worry about.
I'll Be Bored
A trip to Antarctica is difficult to describe. While it is very remote, you will be on a ship much of the time so you won't have to worry about actually trying to camp there (unless you choose a voyage that offers that, that is!). The area is very beautiful and there truly is nowhere else in the world like it. Just seeing an iceberg up close with seals lounging around nearby often makes the journey worth it. There will be plenty to do both on and off the ship. Even if you aren't into nature or a cold environment, you will still probably have a great time on an Antarctica cruise as it really is a once in a lifetime experience.
I'll Get Sick Going Over The Drake Passage
One of the fears that many travelers that are considering a trip to Antarctica has, is the Drake Passage. It is known to be rough, but it still has to be crossed. It does have some calm days though and many passengers don't even feel the roughness of the water thanks to the size of the ship their on and their experienced captains that know how to steer it.
It Will Cost Too Much
Many travelers don't book this type of voyage because they fear it will be expensive. While it can be costly, you can often get good deals if you are flexible when you travel. A great way to save some money is to book a last minute trip. This is especially true in the months of November And December.
I Won't Know What To Pack
Since everything is so white, thanks to the ice and snow, you need to pack a good pair of sunglasses and some sunscreen! Also, make sure you pack an adequate amount of clothing. When you are off the ship exploring, there's a good chance that you will get soaked from the ice. Even though frigid weather clothing can be bulky, it's worth it to pack an extra suitcase filled with these types of clothes. If you can, try to pack clothes that are waterproof. As long as you pack these items, plus toiletries and the normal things you'd pack on any vacation, you should be fine as far as packing goes.
