Important Notes

BOOKING CONDITIONS

Arctic and Antarctic bookings have an increased deposit requirement of 20% of the full voyage cost (before any discount). The balance is due 120 days before departure.

If a booking is cancelled 120 days or more before departure – the cancellation fee is the full loss of the deposit paid.

If a booking is cancelled between 119 days and departure – the cancellation fee is 100% of the total price of the voyage.

Other fees may apply for air tickets and other arrangements booked in conjunction with a Polar voyage.

ADVENTURE OPTIONS

The following activities are available on some or all of the departures of this itinerary. These must be booked in advance, space is limited, and additional costs may apply.

KAYAKING
Taken in small groups of maximum 16 people, multiple times per voyage, kayaking adventures are only conducted during calm weather conditions. Kayaking is open to all levels of experience, however kayaking in the polar waters is not suitable for novices. Beginners interested in kayaking should first take an introductory course prior to the voyage which includes how to do a ‘wet exit’. Regardless of your experience, we recommend you take part in some kayaking practice prior to the voyage to ensure that you are comfortable on the water in the icy conditions.

CAMPING
Spend the night under the Antarctic sky with a hardy group of your shipmates. The crew will determine the best location and conditions for your overnight adventure. Dress warmly and eat a hearty meal before you head out as no meals are permitted onshore. Numbers are limited, so you must book this experience early.

There are also some included optional activities offered on some or all departures of this itinerary.

SNOWSHOEING
This is a unique way to experience the beauty of the polar landscape and discover remote alcoves and hidden valleys. The rewards are well worth the effort, as you will be able to visit places that may be inaccessible with just hiking boots.

Antarctic Explorer from Ushuaia All meals are included as indicated B, L, D (B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner)

Day 1
Ushuaia

Welcome to Ushuaia – one of the southernmost cities in the world. With high seas to the south and mountains to the north, Ushuaia is an ideal departure point for your Antarctic expedition. There are no activities planned until a pre-departure briefing at 6 pm, where you will meet your group leader and some fellow travellers. If you arrive early, you may like to spend some time in the nearby Tierra del Fuego National Park, enjoy some Argentinean barbecue and wine in the city, or visit the many boutique shops and cafés.

Day 2
Ushuaia – Embarkation Day

This morning, pick up any last-minute supplies you may need before heading to the port after lunch. Embarkation will occur in the late afternoon, after which your vessel will sail down the historic Beagle Channel. This channel transects the Tierra del Fuego archipelago in the extreme south of the continent. Settle into your cabin and head out on deck to say farewell to South America. The next time you see land, it will be catching sight of the Great White Continent.

Days 5 - 8
Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands

You’ve arrived along the Antarctic Peninsula! With an air of excitement brewing, prepare for the next few days scouring the landscapes in search of penguin rookeries, breaching whales and other unforgettable wildlife spotting opportunities. Your polar expedition team will survey the ice, weather and sea conditions to organise the perfect Antarctic itinerary, maximising the amount of time for Zodiac excursions, shore landings and adventure activities, including optional kayaking, camping and even a polar plunge! Expect to get the chance to see multiple species of penguin, leopard seals, humpback and minke whales, among other polar wildlife. You may have the chance to stroll along the pebbled beaches of Orne Harbour in search of a chinstrap penguin colony, or cruise past the calving glacier in Neko Harbour. The picturesque Lemaire Channel and animal filled Aitcho Islands are also popular sites. While nothing is set in stone, you will definitely be awestruck at every turn by the fierce power and icy wilderness on full show along the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands.
